Dr. Mats Sandewall is a Swedish forester and senior research staff with over 40 years international experiences in various fields, including forest inventory, assessment and monitoring, development cooperation, environmental resource management, multidisciplinary research, capacity development and project management.

1989-93: Silvi Nova + Swedforest AB, Chief National Forest Inventory Adviser in Laos, Assignment to plan and implement a National Reconnaissance Survey and a National Forest Inventory and to build capacity in related fields within the Forestry Department of Lao PDR.
1993-95: SLU, Department of Forest Survey, international co-ordination & missions
1995-2001: SLU, Department of Forest Resource Management and Geomatics Umeå, project leader related to the NFI in Laos.
2001-03: SLU, Department of Forest Resource Management and Geomatics, Umeå, senior research officer, initiation and co-ordination of international development cooperation projects.
2003-09: SLU Department of Forest Resource Management, Programme Coordinator and team leader, Wondo Genet (Swedish bilateral forestry capacity building programme in Ethiopia).
