Dao The Anh is the Vice-President of Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS) since 2017. He was former Director of the Centre for Agrarian System Research and Development (CASRAD) and DDG of Field Crops Research Institute (FCRI) since 2006. With a first degree in agricultural production, a master (1994) in farming systems, a PhD (2004) in Agricultural, Rural and Food Economics at Montpellier SupAgro, France, he has developed an experience of 34 years in research and developement related to agricultural system and family farming in Vietnam. He is the national convener of UNFSS in Vietnam, member of CIRAD’s scientific committee and foreign member of France Academy of Agriculture.
He stated his research in family farming diversification in Red river delta and Northern Mountain of Vietnam. Recently, he focuses on agro-ecological systems, urban farming, adaptation and mitigation for climate change of agro-food systems, livelihood diversification and biodiversity, food safety management and certification, cooperative and farmer organization development, branding for agricultural products, post-harvest loss, agri-food value chain governance for smallholder in Vietnam. Through the research and development works, he also involved actively in the capacity building, advocacy for small farmers and policy level in Vietnam. Recently he focused in the research and policy advocacy of food system transformation for food and nutrition security at national and international, particularly in the South-South cooperation. He also has taken a sharp interest in the role of safe agriculture and Zero Hunger initiative based on improving nutrition-sensitive agriculture in a sustainable food system.
